Creating safe environments involves active participation and responsibility taken by all parishes. It requires collaboration, vigilance and a proactive approach through policies, procedures, education and practices. Safeguarding training supports parishes and catholic entities in creating safe environments, protecting children and vulnerable individuals, embedding a culture of care, empowering ministry teams, and strengthening the church's credibility and mission. Priests, volunteers and staff in parishes and catholic entities in New Zealand are required to attend safeguarding training every three years.
